Fostering Fair and Inclusive Multimodal Mobility Transitions
Fair Mobility will improve mobility policy frameworks for women and gender minorities in small towns and rural-urban areas, making the unaddressed needs of vulnerable communities visible.
Fair Mobility works to make everyday mobility more equitable, accessible and inclusive, particularly in small towns, peri-urban areas and rural-urban regions where access to transport and essential services can be limited. The project focuses on people who experience mobility barriers differently or more intensely, including women and gender minorities, caregivers, older people, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. It addresses both the mobility system itself, more specifically access to safe, reliable and inclusive public transport, as well as the physical environments that shape how people wait for and use mobility services. Through research, policy analysis, participatory co-design and local experimentation, Fair Mobility examines how mobility needs vary between users and how these differences can be better reflected in planning and decision-making. Solutions are developed and tested in two pilot areas, Creil, France, and Ebensee, Austria, before being translated into transferable design principles, policy recommendations and practical tools. The project ultimately aims to support municipalities, mobility practitioners and communities in developing mobility systems that respond more effectively to diverse everyday needs while reducing inequalities related to gender, age, disability and socio-economic circumstances
